Summer vacations are the best time to utilize for learning Quran as children generally tend to be mentally free of other studies. Over load of school studies sometimes might slow down the pace of Quran learning during the normal days.
Moreover, vacations are the time when children get to play and rest the most. This prepares them for active Quran learning sessions.
It is recommended that the child takes advantage of his summer break by continuing to memorize Qur’an. It is important that he does not spend the entire break in trips and vacations. The break should instead be divided between Qur’an and vacation.
This way, he will not feel bored due to continuous studying and at the same time, he will not forget everything he memorized due to neglecting his review. This requires some sacrifice from both the parents and the child.
The tendency of human nature is to desire rest and relaxation. However, if the student allows a long time to pass without studying or reviewing, he will gradually forget what he has memorized until it becomes completely forgotten.
Then, when he returns to class at the beginning of the new school year, he will have to start from scratch, re-memorizing what he has forgotten during the break. In addition, he will also have to memorize the new assignments required of him.
As a result, he will be stuck in a never-ending cycle of memorizing a part and forgetting the same. Years will pass by and the student may gain very little, or nothing at all, both of which are undesirable results.
So, We would like to re-emphasize the fact that parents must adorn themselves with patience and sacrifice during the suggested time period of their child’s memorization, in order for the child to attain this beneficial knowledge. Only then can, at least one of their children would successfully fulfill the great supererogatory act of memorizing the entire Qur’an. The suggested time period is not long, that is, it should not take an average student more than three years, by Allah’s permission. And Allah knows best.
